Well-preserved Roman helmet from Serbia

Well-preserved ancient Roman helmet from the 2nd century CE, which was found in the town of Sivac (northern Serbia). The object is currently in the collection of the museum in Sombor.

Scientists suspect that the person wearing the helmet may have participated in the punitive expedition against the Iazyges in Pannonia in 167-171 CE and 177-178 CE. The helmet has the inscription C*III*IVL*M*I*EVC, which means: C(ohors) tertia IVL(iana) M(anipulus) primus LVC(ii). The researchers explain that the owner of the helmet was the cavalryman in the first maniple of centurion Lucius in the fourth cohort Iulian.
