Roman gold coins have been discovered in eastern England

Roman gold coins have been discovered in eastern England, near Norwich. A total of 11 coins were found that were minted in Lugdunum (present-day Lyon in France) and which date back to the 1st BCE – 1st century CE. The obverse of the coins features a likeness of Emperor Augustus, and the obverse features various compositions.

In 2021, a Roman stone mine was discovered near ancient Smyrna (today’s Izmir, in western Turkey). The preserved traces prove that the mine worked intensively to meet the demand for building materials necessary for the construction of monumental buildings in Smyrna.
