Imaginifer was a kind of signiferi who carried Caesar’s banner – imago. Imaginifer was added to the rank of cohorts when the Imperial cult was stabilized under the rule of Octavian Augustus.
Imago was a three-dimensional metal portrait of the Roman emperor. The banner was only carried in the lead cohort.
