The marriage of Livia and Augustus was no different from the other Roman marriages. Livia was an exemplary wife who loved her husband; certainly faithful, which, moreover, is consistent with her impeccable upbringing.
On the other hand, she had a great influence on him. She reportedly brought him to such a state that before talking to her, as suggested by Suetonius, he took notes:
[…] his conversations with individuals and the more important of those with his own wife Livia, he always wrote out and read from a note-book, for fear of saying too much or too little if he spoke offhand.
