Scientists have studied a famous Roman vessel – the “Colchester vase” – which has scenes of two gladiators fighting embossed on the walls. The object is on display at the Colchester Castle Museum in England.
It is possible that one of the gladiators died and his incinerated remains were placed in a vase. The cremated remains were subjected to osteological and isotopic analysis. As it turns out, the man was not from Britain, but he was certainly of European origin and was over 40 years old.
