Roman floor with a drawing of a phallus. The object is located at the Archaeological Museum in Zadar, Croatia.
In Roman culture, the phallus was a symbol of fertility, virility, and life force, as well as a talisman protecting against the “evil eye.” It was often depicted in art, amulets (fascinum), and the decoration of homes and public buildings, believed to have apotropaic powers.
