During the construction of a new gas station in Avellino, Campania, workers stumbled on the remains of an ancient wall that was considered part of an ancient amphitheater.
The place itself is an ancient Abellinum, which had many names during the Roman Empire: Augusta, Livia, Veneria, Alexandriana or Abellinatium. The area itself is rich in archaeological monuments – remnants of a villa, thermal baths and a section of the aqueduct were previously found here.
The remains of the wall date back to the 1st century BCE.
