American couple used Roman mosaic as table for over 50 years

For nearly 50 years, a couple from New York City used an ancient Roman mosaic as a coffee table. The amazing artefact dates back to the middle of the 1st century CE.

As it turned out, an amazing work of art adorned the once-mighty ship of Caligula on Lake Nemi, and until II WWII was in a museum in Nemi. In 1944, however, the mosaic was lost.

As it turns out, the owner of the mosaic was the owner of an art gallery in the USA, who bought the building in the 1960s from a wealthy Italian family.

The information that the ancient mosaic is in a woman appeared in 2013 by accident. In 2017, the Italian government brought the artefact to Italy, due to the fact that the object was stolen during the war.
