Curiosities of ancient Rome (Artifact)

Fayum mummy portraits were realistic portraits made on wood, which were folded at the Egyptian mummies of the reign of the Romans. It was a so-called array painting, which was extremely popular in ancient times. About 900 such paintings have survived to our times.

Found in the former Roman camp – Vindolanda – in England, bath clog, which was worn not to get burned from the hot floor in the bathhouse.

In the picture we can see Christian marital ring from ancient Rome, from around the 5th century CE.

Roman bust of Alexander the Great, excavated from the ruins of Herculaneum. Currently located in Blenheim Palace Oxfordshire, England.

Roman strigil, made of bronze. Dated to the 1st century BCE.

Roman woman in a blue coat. The object was found in Egypt; dated back to the half of 1st century CE.

Footprints in the arena of the amphitheater in Serdica (current Sofia in Bulgaria). Dated to the 3rd-4th century CE.

Large Roman fibula (decorative clasp) with cameo – probably showing Plautilla, the wife of emperor Caracalla.

Roman figurine showing a dog with a protruding tongue. The finding is dating back to 4-5th century CE and it’s made of copper. This was found in Gloucestershire (England).

Small Roman bust of a child. The object is located in a museum at the castle in Colchester (built on the foundations of the temple of Claudius). In Roman times, the city was called Camulodunum or Colonia Claudia Victricensis.
