Preserved remains of a Roman ship from the 1st century CE were found in the River Po in northwest Italy, near the towns of Verolengo, Chivasso and San Sebastiano.
The discovery happened by accident in 2021 when the water level in the river decreased and people saw an intriguing find. Researchers believe that the boat may have landed at the ancient port located in Verolengo – Mansio Quadrata.
In ancient times, northwest Italy was dominated by dense forests, making it easier to navigate and transport products by the river.
