Qasr Bashir in Jordan
Qasr Bashir in Jordan

Qasr Bashir in Jordan is the well-preserved ruin of a Roman fort built during the reign of Diocletian (284-305 CE). During this time, the Romans constructed smaller but better fortified strongholds than before.

The fort was part of the Limes Arabicus defense system, protecting the Roman Empire’s borders from desert raids. Constructed from massive stone blocks, its compact, rectangular walls and corner towers still impress with their austere, military architecture. Despite its isolation, it is considered one of the best-preserved Roman forts in the Middle East and serves as a valuable testament to the Roman presence in what is now Jordan.
