Scenes of hunting in Roman mosaic
Scenes of hunting in Roman mosaic

Roman mosaic floor that adorns one of the rooms in the famous villa – Villa Romana del Casale in Sicily. A fragment of a large mosaic shows hunting scenes and nature. Artist incl. showed plants that grew in the vicinity of the building – oaks and cypresses.

On the mosaic, we can also see a feast under a red roof/tent, which probably takes place after a successful hunt. On the left, we see two men looking for thrushes in a tree; one of them, with a falcon on his shoulder, shades his eyes from the sun.

Hunters’ inseparable companions were dogs and horses, which also abundantly appear on the mosaic.
