An amazing discovery was made at Pompeii; the remains of a well-preserved street bar (thermopolium) where food and drink were served were excavated from the ground.
There were traces of food in some of the dishes. On the counter wall, there are beautiful and colorful frescoes depicting various animals, such as pigs, fish, snails and cows. Scientists suspect that the animals might have suggested what type of food the customer might try at the bar.
