In 2016, scientists found evidence stating where the ancient Romans breached the third wall line that once encircled Jerusalem. This site was at the end of the Second Temple, where Migrash HaRussim is now located, residential development in the city centre.
During the excavations, archaeologists found the remains of the tower and, in the vicinity of these ruins, fragments of ballista arrows and stones were thrown by catapults. This proves that there was an attack on this site by Roman troops during the Jewish War. The number of missiles found is really large and proves the extent to which the Romans bombarded the defending Jews on the walls.
It seems that the latest discovery finally ends the scientific discussion that has been going on since the beginning of the 20th century about where the wall was located.
