In the field near Piła (Greater Poland Voivodeship), the policemen caught a man walking with a metal detector. He did not find anything there, but as it turned out later, he had a real treasure at home. A treasure hunter with a detector in his hand and headphones on his ears was spotted in the field by a municipal guard who alerted the police.
As it turned out, the man did not have permits and claimed that treasure hunting was his passion. He was then arrested and his apartment searched. A real treasure was “covered” in a man’s house. The man had medals, crosses or old buttons; coins from the 17th century and dated to the 2nd or 3rd century CE brooches from the times of the Roman Empire.
The police pre-qualified the case in accordance with article 108 of the act on the protection of monuments, which says about their “destroying or damaging”. A man with historical items found may be punished with a fine, and in extreme cases up to 5 years in prison.
