In June this year, in the south of France, in Alès, archaeologists made an extraordinary discovery – the remains of a vast Roman settlement, inhabited from the 2nd to the 6th century CE, were discovered.
The most impressive feature is the perfectly preserved, multicolored mosaic floor with geometric patterns, made from thousands of tiny cubes. According to researchers, they also discovered fragments of a luxurious Roman residence (domus), an advanced drainage system, smaller houses partially carved into the rock, and a late Roman necropolis.
