Fragment of a Roman construction in Katwijk. | Provincie Zuid-Holland
Archaeologists found the remains of a Roman road in the municipality of Katwijk (Netherlands). The preserved road is 125 meters long. In addition to the road, the remains of a Roman settlement were also discovered.
Roman remains were carried out at the request of the provincial authorities of the South-Holland province. Up to our time, vertical piles of oak piles have been preserved, and the road itself was created around 125 CE. There is a plan to start with construction works for a new car route.
The settlement had channels, cemetery. There were also found large quantities of ceramics, pieces of leather clothing, coins, wooden objects, roof tiles and a fishing trap.
According to the scientists, research on discovered objects is to finish by the end of the year.
