In March 2024, archaeologists from the Red River Archeology Group discovered a Roman villa while working on the Brookside Meadows estate in Grove, near Wantage in Oxfordshire, central England. The area has been inhabited since the Bronze Age and is rich in artifacts.
The villa was richly decorated with painted plaster and mosaics. Next to the building there was another building, probably built later, which resembled a “hall with aisles”. This building was dated to the late 1st century CE.
At the discovery site, numerous miniature votive axes, coins and jewelry were also found. Remains of an underfloor heating system were also found.
