In 2016, the Swiss government returned 45 chests containing unique Etruscan artefacts, including two clay sarcophagi, to Italy.

According to information from the Swiss press, the items were stored for 15 years in Geneva in the Geneva FreePorts warehouse, managed by a company registered outside the country.

Italian experts believe that vases, frescoes, sculptures and reliefs were illegally excavated from an archaeological site in Umbria and Lazio and then taken to Geneva FreePorts by a compromised British art dealer.
