After 10 years of displaying the famous Roman mosaic in numerous museums around the world, the outstanding work finally returned to Israel. The artefact will be on display at The Shelby White and Leon Levy Lod Mosaic Archaeological Center in Lod (central Israel), which was built at the site of the villa and mosaic discovery.
The mosaic measures 17 by 9 meters and shows various species of animals, including the rhino, African elephant, giraffe and lion. The facility is 1700 years old and was discovered in 1996; however, it took a total of 13 years to fully extract the mosaic. According to the researchers, it is the largest find of this type in Israel; additionally preserved in very good quality.
