Spring 2026 promises to be a special time for lovers of history and ancient art – the Musée de la Romanité in Nîmes is preparing a major exhibition in partnership with the Louvre. Entitled “L’art romain du Louvre. Un monde d’images” (Roman Art from the Louvre. A World of Images), the exhibition promises to be a true visual and intellectual feast.

The curators have prepared an impressive selection of works, from everyday objects to monumental sculptures. The exhibition will feature glass ceramics, vases and bowls, marble statues and reliefs, mosaics, and small utilitarian objects. These artifacts are not presented solely as “beautiful works of art”—their significance lies in the function they served in ancient Rome.

The exhibition will not only showcase beautiful art—it is a reflection on the role of painting in the lives of ancient Romans. It demonstrates how art was a tool of communication, power, and memory—not merely decorative.

The exhibition will run from April 10, 2026, to January 10, 2027. April to October: daily 10:00 AM–7:00 PM, last admission at 6:00 PM; November to March: daily except Tuesdays, 10:00 AM–6:00 PM. Regular admission: €9, discounts available.
