Ancient missiles for slingshot

Ancient missiles for slingshot found in a necropolis in Marsala (western Sicily). The objects were not in the tomb, but a separate pit, which, according to scientists, suggests was a form of storage.

On some of the missiles, the inscriptions MAG IMP were found, which suggests that they were created during the presence on the island of Sextus Pompeius, son of Pompey the Great. They were probably created in 43 BCE when Lilybaeum was besieged by Sextus Pompey, or in 36 BCE when the fortress was besieged by Marcus Lepidus.

The artifact is on display at the Parco Archeologico di Lilibeo in Marsala.
