In 2016, a 1,600-year-old winery was discovered in Jerusalem. The discovery was made on a construction site on the site of an orphanage, outside the old city walls.

It is believed that the winery was part of a large house. The building contained a large fruit press with eight rooms around which the grapes were stored. Traces of private baths have been found near the winery, including terracotta pipes and bricks. Some of the bricks were stamped with the name of the 10th Roman Legion, one of the four stationed in Jerusalem. The bricks may have been manufactured in nearby Binyanei Ha-Uma.
