Interesting finds were discovered in the waters of the Caesarea port off the coast of Israel in 2016. It is the largest discovery in this country in 30 years.
Found in the sea a bronze lamp depicting a solar deity Sol, a figure of a moon deity Luna, a lamp in the shape of an African slave’s head, fragments of three bronze statues and a figurine of the god of wine, Dionysus. Archaeologists also unearthed two metal lumps composed of thousands of coins depicting the Roman emperors Constantine and Licinius.
The finds were probably transported in a merchant ship about 1600 years ago. Scientists believe the ship landed shortly after Constantine defeated Maxentius in a race for the Roman throne.
