Work on the next metro line (C) in Rome brought an interesting discovery in 2016. This time, in the heart of the Eternal City, the ruins of Roman barracks were found, where the praetorians were stationed.
The barracks date back to the beginning of the 2nd century CE, more specifically the times of Hadrian. The building was to cover 900 square meters; the building had a 100-meter long corridor with 39 rooms, finished with black and white mosaics and wall frescoes. The remains of the Roman construction are 9 meters below street level.
Archaeologists also found a mass grave in which so far 13 adult skeletons with coins and a bronze bracelet have been discovered.
