Trajan’s Bridge over the Danube was built between 103 and 105 CE. The great structure was commissioned by Trajan, who wanted in this way to enable the rapid transport of soldiers to the other side of the river and the invasion of Dacia.
The building was approx. 1.5 km long1, 15 meters wide and 19 high (measured from the water surface). There was a camp on each side of the river to secure the descent to the bridge. Thus, only people who crossed the castrum had access to it.
