Horses shared rooms with legionaries

Scientists have long been studying the Roman barracks at Segedunum (on the line of Hadrian’s Wall in England) to find out where the horses were kept.

So far, researchers have been excavating to find any traces of the existence of barns. By chance, however, archaeologists found deep holes in the ground where horse droppings were collected. What’s more, they were under the barracks. It turned out that Roman soldiers shared rooms with their companions. This proves how important animals in the Roman army were horses.
