A treasure of 175 silver Roman coins has been discovered in a forest in Tuscany, Italy. The coins date back to 82 BCE, i.e. the time when a bloody civil war took place in Italy, in which Lucius Cornelius Sulla seized power in Rome.

According to the researchers, it is possible that the discovered treasure was hidden valuables in the past, which were tried to be preserved during the uncertain time of the fighting. Their owner could be either a soldier who died in one of the battles or a banker who wanted to keep his funds.

As it turns out, the Roman treasure was discovered in 2021, but the information was kept secret for almost two years in order to fully examine the discovery site.
