In the years 2014-2016 in the vicinity of Winchester, in the so-called Worthy Down Camp, excavations were carried out in the late Roman cemetery. Later, scientists conducted a detailed analysis of the finds.

A total of 19 graves were discovered; in some of them Roman coins were found, which were minted in the second half of the 4th century CE Most of the bodies were buried on the back; one body had a severed head placed at the feet.

The analysis of the bones made it possible to assess that the people were buried at a rather young age; up to 45 years of age. The condition of the bones proves that the dead had a hard life and their diet was extremely poor. Interestingly, researchers managed to discover the origin of the dead. As it turns out, two of the dead had black or Far Eastern ancestors. Moreover, many of the buried people spent their childhood on the Iberian Peninsula, Southern Europe or North Africa.

Researchers suspect that the deceased belonged to the lower class of society, perhaps agricultural, industrial or slave workers.
