Colorful bust of Marcus Aurelius
A colored bust showing Emperor Marcus Aurelius . Dated to the 2nd century CE.
The object is proof that the images of the ancients did not have shades of white and grey, but were in fact coloured. In this case, the paint layers are not preserved, but you can see the different marble colours used in the work.
