Roman floor mosaic showing the clash of Bacchus and Indians. The object was found in Villa Ruffinella in Tusculum. The object, dated to the 4th-5th century CE, is now located in the National Museum in Rome.
The scene refers to the events from Dionysiaká – book 15 – the Greek epos of Nonnos from Panopolis. It tells the story of journey of the god Dionysus (Roman equivalent of Bacchus) to India and his triumphant return to the west.
