Roman denarius of Britain’s usurper Carausius in 286-293 CE. The coin was found in Wiltshire, southern England.
Carausius proclaimed himself emperor in Britain after he fled Gaul in 286 CE before his arrest and execution (he was accused of hoarding loot, taken from pirates), by order of Emperor Maximian.
Carausius ruled until 293 CE when he was murdered by one of his ministers.
