Roman dragon head, made of bronze. The object dates back to the 2nd-3rd century CE; discovered in Niederbieber (Germany). The artifact decorated the banner of the Roman cavalry and was carried by a draconarius.
The wind blew through the dragon’s brown mouth and flapped its fabric tail in the style of today’s airport sleeve. It is believed that in order to impress enemies, a whistle was placed in the dragon’s neck to make an intimidating sound while galloping.
