Rome’s expansion in the 2nd century BCE to the eastern areas of the Mediterranean Sea sparked enormous Roman interest in the Macedonian Empire and the great monarchies that emerged after its collapse. The higher social classes were particularly interested in the figure of Alexander the Great, of whom we still find numerous images.
