Discoveries and news in Rome

Utilizing the enormous capital accumulated in the 18th and 19th centuries, the Italian house of Torlonia has accumulated over the years an impressive private collection of over 600 ancient Roman artifacts. After years of negotiations, conducted between representatives of the family and the Italian authorities, it was possible to display some of the monuments to the public.

In Ashkelon (western part of Israel) the remains of the Roman factory of garum – the famous sauce of the Romans from fermented fish remains – were found.

From the new year, the prices for a ticket authorizing you to visit the Colosseum or Forum Romanum will increase from 12 to 16 euros. Importantly, however, the number of seats you can see with this ticket has also been increased.

In the basilica at Porta Maggiore in Rome, renovation works in the underground were completed. The object is dated to the 1st century CE.

Between 2014 and 2016, scientists were able to discover the remains of a Roman luxury villa. As it turned out, the building still had preserved wooden elements, which were subjected to detailed tests.

In southern England, in the city of Aylesbury, archaeologists have discovered a well-preserved chicken egg. Apart from it, three others were in place, but those broke and released an “intense stench.”
