Workers installing the gas pipeline on Via Alfonso Lamora in the centre of Rome made an interesting discovery in 2015. At first, they thought they had hit a funnel. Only with time, it turn out that they found a room that was over 2000 years old.
The walls of the room are decorated with frescoes, and the room itself was part of an area called Horti Lamiani where the Imperial Gardens were located. In these areas, there were numerous sculptures, frescoes and decorative elements that can now be admired in the museum.
According to the archaeologist Mirella Serlorenzi, finding a room under the street is a rare case.
