The statue of a sitting and resting Roman boxer is one of the most famous ancient works. Now we can take a closer look at it thanks to computer technology.
The man shown in the sculpture has a broken nose, “wrestler’s ear” and several scars, which proves that he spent many fights in the ring. “Fresh” still bleeding wounds suggest that the boxer was introduced shortly after the fight.
The sculpture was created using the lost wax method and consists of eight pieces joined together. The statue was found in Rome, on Quirinal Hill, in 1885.
