Saturn (Saturnus), the Old Vietnamese god of grain and agriculture. He also had many things in common with the Greek Demeter. His spouse was Ops. Later, Saturn was identified with the Greek Kronos and Ops with the Greek Rhea. Father of Jupiter, Neptune and Pluto. He was once the ruler of the world, the gods, and the heavens until his sons came against him and took his power. Jupiter took his father’s place in heaven, Neptune in the sea, and Pluto in the underworld.
It was believed that during his reign a golden age reigned on the earth. He taught people to cultivate the land and to vine. He was also supposed to be the first to legislate in Italy.
His feast, Saturnalia, was celebrated in Rome for seven days at the end of December. The temple dedicated to Saturn was built in 497 BCE on Capitoline Hill.
