Two intriguing mummies have been discovered at the ancient port of Taposiris Magna, located about 50 km west of Alexandria, which researchers date back to the life of the Egyptian queen Cleopatra VII.
The objects are interesting because they are wrapped in golden leaves; it was a practice used only in the case of high-ranking people. The X-ray examinations carried out confirmed that the discovered mummies belonged to a man and a woman. Unfortunately, both mummies are in bad condition due to the rainwater entering the tomb.
In addition to the mummified bodies, 200 coins were found in the necropolis with Cleopatra’s name.
According to the researchers, further work carried out at Taposiris Magna may even lead to the discovery of Cleopatra’s tomb. We do not know the burial place of the famous Egyptian queen. Still, there are versions suggesting that after her suicide, her body was buried either in Alexandria or in Taposiris Magna.
