The Egyptian Ministry of Tourism announced that a kilometer-long tunnel has been discovered in the ancient port of Taposiris Magna, near Alexandria, which may lead to the tomb of Cleopatra VII, Egypt’s last queen.
The discovered tunnel is under the ancient temple of Osiris, at a depth of 13 meters. Scientists in the vicinity of the temple discovered many valuable artefacts, including coins with the image of Cleopatra, and 22 mummies in a nearby cemetery. Researchers conducting the excavations believe that the Egyptian queen was to be buried with her beloved Mark Antony in this temple.
Archaeological work is to be continued on site.
