Italian authorities have managed to recover Roman artifacts stolen from Herculaneum, valued at a total of $20 million. The objects were discovered in the USA.
In total, 60 objects that were in private collections, auction houses and museums were imported. The works of art include the head of Septimius Severus made of marble or the fresco showing Hercules as a young child strangling a snake.
According to the Italian authorities, over 250 antique objects were imported from the US last year, which were stolen or illegally obtained. The objects at the moment are in Rome’s Museo dell’Arte Salvata.
