Tubilustrium was a Roman holiday celebrated on March 23 and May 23. As war campaigns were launched in the spring in March, the god of war was worshiped Mars and the trumpets of war were cleaned (tubae), which was supposed to bring victory in battles. This day was at the end of another festival Quinquatria.
The trumpet cleansing ceremony took place in Rome, in the Atrium sutorium building, where a sheep was sacrificed. On the streets of the cities you could see dancing priests – Saliów.
In May, the holiday took on a musical character. At that time, the god Vulcan, who was responsible for the process of making trumpets, was worshiped, during which trumpets and trumpets were most commonly used at public and religious ceremonies.
