Curiosities of ancient Rome (Artifact)

Roman mosaic showing winning racehorse named Bacceatus. Object was uncovered in ruins of Carthage (Tunisia). Dated back to 3rd century CE and located in Musée National Du Bardo in Tunis.

So called Great Antonine Altar was found in Ephesus and is dated back to circa 169 CE. Object is a relief monument showing from the far left, Marcus Aurelius once he was 17-years-old. Next to him stands Antoninus Pius with young Lucius Verus and further Hadrian.

Roman marble bust of Publius Cornelius Scipio Africanus (236–183 BCE), who was a general in the Second Punic War. Object dated back to I century CE; located in Uffizi Gallery in Florence.

Reliable reconstruction of Nero’s appearance, based on the famous bust of the emperor located in the Capitoline Museums in Rome. The sculpture was restored in the 17th century.

Roman mosaic showing Hercules who caught a Ceryneian Hind. It was a third labour of Hercules to bring an animal to Eurystheus – king of Tyryns. Object is dated back to 170-180 CE and made of marble, terracotta, glass paste. Currenty located in Valencia Museum.
