Curiosities of ancient Rome

Medusa’s head on a Roman mosaic. The object is located in a Roman villa in Bingor (southern England). The villa is known for its beautiful floor mosaics, which have survived in very good condition.

Wonderful Roman portrait showing two young men. The picture is made of gold and glass. The object dated to the 4th century CE was found in Bologna (Italy).

A dagger with a pair of gladiator’s greaves, made of bronze. Decorated with convex images of Jupiter (left) and Neptune (right). Pompeii from the 1st century BCE. The objects are located in the National Archaeological Museum of Naples.

Interesting Roman helmet with an eagle on top. The object is dated to the late II – early III century CE. These types of helmets were worn during official military parades.

A fragment of the Roman fresco depicting the rape of Europe by Zeus / Jupiter – hidden in the form of a bull. The object was found in Pompeii. Currently located in the National Archaeological Museum, in Naples.

Advertising signboard of the Roman wineshop in Herculaneum, promoting different types of wine and prices. “Ad Cucumas” on the signboard is probably the name of the place.
