The film “Cleopatra”, shot in 1963 by Joseph Mankiewicz, is the most profitable film about the Queen of Egypt. The film was shot in practice for three years and the budget was as high as 44 million USD.
One of the few interesting scenery was the coast near the town of Nettuno, south of Rome. There, too, on a small rocky island, there is a small castle – the Tower Astura – which connects to the shore by a stone bridge. This place was chosen to show Alexandria. The tower was in no way damaged due to its historical value. However, in its surroundings, structures from ancient times were built to reproduce the appearance of the ancient city as much as possible.
