In 2017, 35-year-old amateur historian Mike Smale discovered a 2,000-year-old Roman hoard of 600 coins on the farm. The discovery took place in Bridport, in the south of England.
Experts estimate the find could be worth £200,000 in total. Some of the coins date back to 32 BCE (the time of the alliance of Mark Antony and Cleopatra) and each can be worth up to £900. Other “metal discs” date back to the reign of the emperors in the 1st century CE.
At the moment, the finds are to be submitted for valuation and then probably be auctioned off or sold to a museum.
