Beautiful virtual reconstruction of the Celsus Library in Ephesus (Turkey). There is no certainty as to the colour of the building, but it seems that red and white were one of the possibilities.

The library was founded in the years 114-117 CE and commissioned by the consul Julius Celsus to honour the name of his father, Titus Julius Celsus Polemaeanus. It served as a library and a tomb – during archaeological research, a crypt with a sarcophagus was discovered under the floor.

The Library of Celsus is one of the most impressive buildings in ancient Rome. There were about 12,000 scrolls in the building, which makes it the third-largest library next to Alexandria and Pergamum.
