Over the years, it was considered to continue the blockbuster movie from 2000 – “Gladiator” – in which the main role was played by Russel Crowe. The story of an enslaved Roman general who had to fight for his life in the arena will certainly be remembered for a long time. The enormous success of the film encouraged to continue the story.
As we were informed the Paramount Pictures will be responsible for the sequel of “Gladiator”, and Ridley Scott will be again the director – it raises hopes for a really good movie. In 2017, the director himself announced the revival of general Maximus.
However, as suggested by the latest source of information – the portal Deadline – in this part the main character is to become Lucius, who in the first part was remembered as the son of Lucilla, lover of Maximus, and nephew of the emperor Commodus. Already mature, Lucius is supposed to act in accordance with the values of Maximus, and may even be the son of famous General.
It is worth mentioning that from a historical perspective, Lucius was actually the son of Lucilla – the daughter of Marcus Aurelius and brother of Commodus – and Lucius Verus. However, the boy was to die at an early age or even at birth. On the other hand, fiction is nothing new in Ridley Scott’s films. The “Gladiator” from 2000 also had a lot of coloration.
The script for the next part of the film will be written by Peter Craig, who already created the story in the films “The Town” and “The Hunger Games”.
