Discoveries and news in Rome

In 2018, an Egyptian archaeological mission led to the discovery of a Hellenistic cemetery in Alexandria and archaeological remains, including a tombstone or a collection of dishes and lamps.

In 2018, a Roman burial ground with around 300 graves was discovered near Bristol (South West England). The discovery took place during construction works carried out for a new housing estate.

On the Sardinian coast, near the city of Olbia, in 2018 the remains of an Etruscan center dating back to the 9th century BCE were found.

Interesting discoveries were made in England. Archaeologists found traces of a Roman shopping centre, an abandoned medieval village and three prehistoric monuments.

Archaeologists have managed to recreate the skulls of the victims of the ancient eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 CE in 3D. The works of scientists concerned the Roman centre Oplontis, which, like the famous Pompeii or Herculaneum, was destroyed by the cataclysm and buried in a layer of ash.

In 2018, archaeologists discovered the remains of a Roman road in Northumberland, in the north of England. It is part of the road known as “Devil’s Causeway”.

In a villa in Stabiae (southern Italy), a fragment of the Roman water supply system was discovered, which consisted of a decorated reservoir and lead pipes. This system was used to regulate the flow of water and distribute it to various rooms of the house and fountains.

At the archaeological site of Kom Al-Rasras (southern Egypt), the remains of a temple from the 2nd century CE, i.e. Roman times, were found. The discovery was made thanks to the involvement of students.

There was an accidental discovery in the Spanish city of Cadiz (Spain). After a storm that passed through the local Cortadura beach, the inhabitants found the remains of a Roman aqueduct and a stone road.
