Discoveries and news in Rome

In eastern Serbia, in Viminacium, an early Christian tomb was discovered that dates back to the beginning of the 3rd century CE. Human remains were buried in an ordinary grave. Originally, it was believed that the deceased belonged to a low social class.

Scientists found in the ancient city of Remesiana (now Palanka in southeastern Serbia) an early Christian tomb from Roman times – roughly from the 4th-5th centuries CE.

In the eastern part of England, in Lincolnshire, human remains, ceramics and foundations of buildings were found that date back to Roman times. Scientists estimated that the finds date back to the 2nd-3rd century CE.

During an excavation carried out at Bamburgh Castle in the north of England, the foundations of a Roman building were discovered. The building had a circular shape and has 20 meters in diameter.

Italian archaeologists have discovered a large Roman basin that dates in some parts to the 5th century BCE. The property is located between Rome and Ostia Antica.

An amazing find was discovered in the Slovak city Spišské Vlachy – a Roman coin dating back to the 4th century CE. It shows the emperor Constantius II, who ruled between 337 and 361 CE.

In Corby (central England), the remains of a larger Roman manufacturing complex were found, where many specialists worked 1,600 years ago, building villas and houses.

Roman bench and antique statuettes were found in the French city of Vienne. The discovery was made in what used to be ancient luxury gardens on the banks of the Rhone.

The authorities of the Italian city of Nemi, located 30 km from Rome, are demanding 30 million compensation from Germany for the destruction of the remains of Roman ships of Caligula during World War II.
